ROCK THE CITY MARATHON is a collaboration of grassroots groups standing up for disenfranchised youth in Dallas. The group is led by DJ's, Artists, Non-Profits, Youth Organizations, Concerned Parents and The Streets. The marathon mission is to develop first-time voters and excite registered non-participating voters to elect officials that will provide resources for youth programs.
ROCK THE CITY MARATHON is a 72-hour continuous voter’s registration drive and kick off of a 30 day push supporting Showtime at the Polls. Showtime At The Polls occurs on June 8th at polling locations within the city of Dallas. The event is expected to have at a minimum 20,000 participants supporting Dallas youth. Rock The City Marathon (RTCM) will take place throughout the city of Dallas starting Monday, May 6th at 2:00 PM and ending Thursday, May 9th 2:00 PM. RTCM will be hosted at The Village Bridge Center located at 2111 S Second Dallas, Texas 75210.
RTCM goal is to ensure that the City of Dallas and its elected officials will no longer be allowed to ignore its minority youth. When these youth are ignored it has a direct impact on public safety for all citizens living in and around Dallas. Based on their current economic status and lack of workforce skills, many youths live in poverty and have hopes of becoming a successful artist or professional athlete as a pathway to independence. If we as a community do not invest in our youth they will rob us or attempt to sell drugs as a way to acquire money to support their dreams or put food on the table.
The City of Dallas must invest in organizations that have children in order to increase their capacity and program depth. The goal is to teach financial literacy to youth and their parents while implementing entrepreneurship or income opportunities for each participant. By acquiring the aforementioned skill set and additional income families can start to thrive and end generations of hopelessness.
